Why we're building engforeng in the open

Most engineering writing shows the polished result: the architecture diagram after the fact, the clean commit history, the postmortem with the lessons already distilled. What it usually leaves out is the middle part — the tradeoffs that were actually argued over, the approaches that got tried and quietly abandoned, and the judgment calls that had no obviously right answer at the time.

engforeng exists to capture that middle part. We're building a place where engineers break down real problems they've worked on, walk through how they actually solved them, and — more importantly — explain the reasoning behind the decision, not just the decision itself.

This is the first post on the blog, and fittingly it's about the project itself rather than a specific engineering problem. We're heads-down building the core of the site right now: the community, the writing tools, and the format for these breakdowns. Future posts will get into the specifics — real problems, real solutions, real tradeoffs.

If that sounds like something you'd want to read, or write, follow along. We'll have more to share soon.
